Energizer’s Commitment

Leading the industry in coin lithium safety

Energizer is the leader in coin lithium safety. We are the first battery manufacturer to voluntarily introduce coin lithium packaging that meets the standards and recommendations made by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

We are committed to curbing and eliminating injuries caused by coin lithium battery ingestion. Here are our initiatives:

– Research
Leading research on what causes chemical reaction when coin lithium batteries are swallowed. Sharing our findings and collaborating with health, safety professionals, and the industry in search of a solution.

– Standards development
Actively participating in voluntary standards development for batteries and battery-containing devices. Promoting the standardisation of warning language and device design to make it harder for children to access battery compartments.

– Child-resistant products and packaging
The first in North America to introduce coin lithium battery packaging compliant with child resistant packaging standards and recommendations made by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Energizer requires that all devices that carry an Energizer brand name and use coin lithium batteries include child safety features for the battery compartment. Our requirements follow the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) toy standard and the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) voluntary standards for all other devices.

– Awareness efforts
In 2011, we launched the first industry-led effort to raise awareness of the coin lithium battery issue among parents and caregivers through a partnership with Safe Kids Worldwide, the National Capital Poison Centre and other health and safety organisations.
